Step into an unforgettable getaway amidst Charleston’s scenic architecture, rich history, and most treasured landmarks.
Whether you indulge in the best southern delicacies Charleston has to offer, or explore its historic districts, an adventure awaits just outside of Emeline’s doors. Use this three-day guide to make the most of your time in the Holy City.
Day 1
Start your day with a very short walk to Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit, one of the most popular breakfast spots in all of Charleston. After breakfast, make your way to downtown Charleston where you can take a stroll down the acclaimed shopping district that is King Street. For an alternative shopping destination, check out the Charleston City Market, where you can learn about the locale’s storied past, and can shop a wide array of locally-made goods.
After a day of shopping, head to the Nathaniel Russell House Museum to learn about the culture and history of Charleston in the 1800s. This house was considered one of the most ornate and beautifully-crafted houses of its time — now preserved to offer a glimpse of Charleston’s past.
In the afternoon, discover the vibrant colors of Rainbow Row — a set of 13 colorful houses lined up on one street, making it a picturesque stop in the itinerary. Next, head a few blocks over to The Battery to catch the sunset on the Charleston Harbor, followed by dinner at one of the many restaurants nearby such as Husk or FIG.
Day 2
Waiting to surprise visitors with its luscious gardens, scenic walking trails, and over 400 acres of protected wetlands is the Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. Here, travelers will find an oasis in the Lowcountry that has enamored nature-lovers for over 300 years.
Next, pair your visit to the Gardens with a trip to the Angel Oak — a historical park that houses one of the largest live oak trees on the East coast, estimated to be 300 to 400 years old. This majestic tree leaves thousands of visitors a year in awe, as it offers a peaceful escape on the outskirts of Charleston.
In the early evening, we recommend taking a trip to Isle of Palms Beach or Folly Beach to catch the sunset while sitting on the sandy shore. Both of these beaches offer mesmerizing views of the Atlantic, all equipped with beachfront restaurants and bars for a great dining experience.
Day 3
On your final day in Charleston, start your morning by diving deep into the history of the Gibbes Museum of Art. Founded in 1905, the museum has over 10,000 works of art in its permanent collection, celebrating a large number of southern artists. After your museum visit, take a carriage tour through the city to fully experience Charleston’s fascinating heritage and unmatched charm.
In the afternoon, explore the Charleston Tea Garden, where you can sample some of the finest teas in the area. Visitors are welcome to take one of the many guided tours which showcase the vast array of tea bushes on the property, and a factory tour that shows how the tea is made, from start to finish.
Finally, end your Charleston getaway with a harbor tour. The Historic Charleston Harbor Tour is most popular, guiding guests to see over 75 important landmarks, all set against the backdrop of Charleston’s stunning skyline.
