Fall in Charleston, SC: Events, Activities & Autumn Escapes

A Season Well Spent: Fall in Charleston, SC

The seasons shift, and with them, a reason to return (or perhaps to arrive for the first time) to Charleston. Fall is a season of clear skies, lighter crowds, and porch-perfect weather. It brings a bounty of beloved local festivals, haunted history, and harvests best enjoyed on patios. At Emeline, we welcome this season as we do our guests — with open doors.

Charleston’s fall calendar is as full as the harvest. There’s plenty of pumpkins to pick, music filling the air, and more than a few reasons to clink glasses. From Emeline, you’re never far from the festivities. And this year, Emeline is proud to serve as the host hotel for a series of wine seminars during the Food & Wine Classic.

Things to Do in Charleston by Day & Night

Fall days in the Holy City are best planned with plenty of room for scenic detours. Sunny mornings might carry you to the Charleston Farmers Market for coffee and crepes. A stroll, hike, or cycle through America’s oldest garden at Magnolia Plantation promises the most picturesque autumn colors. And for a classic harvest tradition, The Boone Hall Plantation and Pumpkin Patch offers old-fashioned fun with pony rides, corn mazes, and tractor tours.

When the sun dips behind the city’s steeples, a different kind of history comes to light. In October and November, take a candle-lit tour through the fine art and historical artifacts of Drayton Hall. For those with a taste for something spookier, the haunted corners of the historic district — Old City Jail, Provost Dungeon, Pink House, and Dock Street Theatre— are best explored with Bulldog Tours or Charleston After Dark. You’ll find each landmark just a five- to fifteen-minute walk from Emeline.
